The first things come to my mind about movement are: CRASH, ROTATE, ROLL, PULL and PUSH, SLIDE, FALL, SWING, WALKING, TWINE. I made three models about the movement today:

TWIST

It is a necklace made by paper sticks. I twist and bind them together by tapes.Then people need wear it on shoulder and neck. This is simple but meaningful. Because, I want to remind people that having a good writing posture is very important, otherwise, the skeleton will have movements, like the twist of cervical vertebra.

TRANSFORMATION

It is bracelet made by white card and metal wire. I made three cubes, one of them is only the frame by metal wire. The other two is made by paper, but one’s surface is plicated by my hands. I put these three cubes together in order, the metal cube is on the top, the plicated one is in the middle, and the last one without any decoration is in the bottom. I use this bracelet to express the process of sublimation. For example, the ice transformed into the gas. In my opinion, this is one kind of movement of physical changes.

RESTRICT

This 3-D object is a necklace, as well. I made a cuboid by paper at first. And then, cut the surface of this object and press some part of the cuboid inside. The rugged and concave-convex surface of object represents some restrict things to people. However, because of the limited time, this model is not elaborate. My classmate cannot explain and understand this work, as well. So I am going to make it larger and more elaborate next time.

Furthermore, the most inspired thing about movament is when I wash my plates, I discover that water can have a lot of kinds of movement and shapes because of its unique physical properties. Cite some examples:

Falling of the water droplets
Splashing of water
Lapping of waves

These movements even can be shown at the same time. So I decide to make something about the movement of water. Then I researched some artists’ works. I think there are two structure inspired me most. First one is the Dubai rotating skyscraper by David Fisher. Although the movement of building is about twist, the changing outlines and shapes remind me the shapes and patterns of water ripple. Another one is the Aquatics Centre in London by Zaha Hadid. This building cannot move and change, but its structure of smooth lines makes me think about the profile of sea waves. So I searched some pictures of water in different status and shapes and I decide to make some samples by paper clay to express the outlines of water. I want to combine the samples with the model of 'Transformation’ I made, to explain a different kind of movement—the physical change. (eg.The ice turned into gas. )

Confirm copying
